Migrating to openEuler from CentOS/EL
Moving from CentOS/RHEL to openEuler is a different decision from moving to a RHEL rebuild: the former joins an independent ecosystem, the latter seeks binary compatibility.
Know the ecosystem differences first
Section titled “Know the ecosystem differences first”The official homepage lists architecture coverage far beyond the EL-family mainstream — Arm, x86, RISC-V, LoongArch, PowerPC and SW-64 — on top of openEuler’s own kernel branch and package build system. A like-for-like package swap is not a valid assumption; assess architecture, package ecosystem and kernel behaviour separately.
The official entry point: x2openEuler
Section titled “The official entry point: x2openEuler”The official docs center maintains an x2openEuler migration guide entry. Tool capabilities, supported sources and targets, and the migration procedure are defined there — read the official guide first; this site deliberately does not restate its support matrix.
Before you touch anything
Section titled “Before you touch anything”cat /etc/os-release && uname -mRecord the system fingerprint, export package/script/certificate inventories, and prepare a rollback point (snapshot or full backup). Validate the whole path on a pilot machine before touching production.
Rollback and parallel running
Section titled “Rollback and parallel running”The official repo tree keeps both LTS lines published side by side, so source and target systems can each point at their own repositories during assessment. Cut traffic over only after parallel validation.
